canon: Dimension 20: Fantasy High
age: 16
canon point: S2E16, immediately after Pok teleports Riz back to the material plane

history: His WIKI PAGE covers all of S1, so I'll make up the gaps! For their Sophomore Year of high school, the Bad Kids are sent on a journey to recover the crown of the Nightmare King, a fearsome extraplanar being that could bring chaos and decay to the world as they knew it. As they set out on their quest, Riz was kidnapped by Baron, a figment of his own lies and deep-seated fears of abandonment due to his asexuality (poorly understood by even himself), and was nearly used as a human sacrifice to the Nightmare King at his minions' behest. Upon rescue, he and the Bad Kids set to solving the mystery and continuing their journey to the Nightmare Forest.

Upon further investigation, Riz realizes that the Nightmare King's familiar, Kalina, has had it out for him personally for a very intimate reason: she had been his deceased father's partner in his job as a secret agent, and had been the one to orchestrate his untimely demise after he'd gotten too close to uncovering her true nature. The Bad Kids ventured and fought their way through a pirate city (in which Riz did an uncharacteristically large amount of snuff and covered the entirety of his body with tattoos), and when Kalina got her hands on Riz's friend Fabian, Riz reluctantly traded all of their intel on her in order to save his friend's life, unwittingly endangering his other friend's mother in the process. In the midst of all of this, his partymember Adaine was kidnapped and held captive in Calethriel Tower, an elven prison.

The Bad Kids cross through the elven land of Fallinel (which Riz deeply dislikes), raids the prison, and somehow manage to successfully free both Adaine and her sister from the Tower's clutches. As they barely escape by the skin of their teeth, they're confronted with a new problem: one of their party members, Fig, gets a summons to Hell in order to sort out her father's legal affairs, being that he was the ruler of the Bottomless Pit and had been shirking his duties on account of being trapped in a gem. The party is split as Riz and Fig forge their way into Hell and Riz acts as Fig's dubious council as they undergo a trial on her father's behalf. In the midst of this, Kalina returns to Riz and taunts him with the idea of seeing his father again, here in Hell. Riz takes the bait and sees his father being tortured by demons while stridently claiming he never claimed to care about Riz and his mother at all, and never regretted his long absences.

When properly reunited, Riz finds out that was all a ruse; Pok Gukgak is in fact a secret agent of Heaven, and was working undercover as a sinner. When their situation gets dicey, Pok makes his daring escape with Riz in-hand, bringing him to heaven and enlightening him on everything that he'd been up to, as well as initiating Riz as part-time member of the Lower Planar Reconnaissance Task Force -- a unit meant to investigate matters of the lower planes. Decked out with snazzy new gear and a new understanding of his father after a heartfelt reunion, Pok sends Riz back to his friends to continue their mission to destroy the Nightmare King.

abilities: - Marksmanship with his firearm, equipped with bullets, tranquilizer darts, signal flares, and net bullets
- Sword of Shadows, a tool he can use to teleport up to 30 feet once a day
- Above average powers of stealth, speed, and dexterity, frequently allowing him to hide, attack, and hide again within seconds
- Skilled in investigation and deduction as a Private Detective
- Moderate first-aid skills
- Seraphim Vest that allows him to temporarily gain wings -- essentially, he can use it to either move laterally through the air or to be able to survive long falls, but he can't actually gain any height using it
- Spy watch equipped with a small saw, laser, and lockpick
- Tie equipped with a spy camera

Essentially: super spy skills! He's great with a gun, fantastic at sneaking around crime scenes and solving mysteries, which is great to make up for his physical strength, which is sorely lacking. As a relatively high level DND character, he's a pretty tough kid; he can take a lot of punishment without dying, and can dole it out to match. But largely, he's just a guy.

personality: Riz is an exceptionally intense young man who would have been doomed to social failure even without having several compounding factors working against him. As a racial minority in a world in which discrimination against goblins is commonplace, his incredibly earnest and genuine desire to make friends coupled with his off-putting personality fell flat; he's focused on the idea of being a private investigator and is never happy unless he has a mystery to solve, insists on dressing in a suit and tie to high school, hands out business cards as his chief mechanism of making friends, and is prone to fits of anxiety and paranoia. This is not helped by his tendency to want to follow the rules, his ignorance of appropriate social cues, and the sort of chipper cluelessness that's absolutely catnip to a certain kind of high school bully. Even when faced with outright aggression, Riz tends to hope that the situation can be salvaged, and would largely prefer to be able to get along with everyone.

On the subject of his social skills, there's no better word to describe him than 'nerd'. He's fundamentally a rule-follower and a chronic overachiever that endlessly loves his work, and thrives in the structured environment of public school while not understanding that not everyone shares his chipper view of things. He enters social interactions as though he's completing a test, and finds the prospect of responding appropriately to a text message much more frightening than taking down a monster. He's grown out of a lot of his social ineptitude after a year and change of having a loving and supportive friend group (he is passably cool, even), but he fundamentally remains the high-strung nerd he's always been.

When left alone with his thoughts, he frequently spirals out of control, but has expressed an equal fear of not having a mystery to solve: he is fundamentally terrified of being alone with himself and having to confront his deep-seated insecurities, frightened of being abandoned as soon as it's made clear that he's no longer an asset to those around him. Many of his fears are exacerbated by his asexuality and his worry that his friends will one day outgrow him and that their sexual and romantic conquests will prove more important to them than he ever could be. While his emotions are frequently an open book, his deeper thoughts and history are not; he's an private kid, and will outright flee if someone tries to make him talk about his feelings. Despite these fears, he's devoted to his family and friends and will willingly go to the furthest reaches of hell to support them in his own peculiar way. His love language is work, and he'll work until his hands are bloodied and bruised without any sense of animosity for those he loves, a questionable tactic he learned from his equally as loving but equally as flawed parents.

While Riz is generally a sweet, good-natured kid with a strong moral code, motivated to do what he considers to be the 'right thing' and to save as many lives as possible, his thirst for justice when his loved ones are wronged often makes him pragmatically violent and brutal in surprising ways, torturing one antagonist by shooting off his fingers one by one, and murdering another in cold blood while unconscious. This isn't helped by his more base goblin instincts; when threatened or upset, he frequently hisses at people, and will quite happily devour his opponent's raw flesh if appropriately emotionally elevated (and will take the rest home for leftovers in tupperware).

Largely, Riz is just a sweet kid who loves his friends and his parents, and probably should have been given therapy instead of a gun, but such is the adventuring life.
