It's tricky, when he doesn't notice until it's too late, but he'll try and keep it in mind more recent--try to be more attentive to his friends, about how they're feeling. Keep track of it, just so he can feel like he is doing a good job. He doesn't know if friends have to do that, or if it comes naturally, but he's okay feeling odd and uncertain about something so basic if he can do a better job about it going forward.
